Week 7 – Monday

Today’s lecture around semiotics was a most clear explanation of language and structure and how it is used in cultural studies. Until this point, I had understood Barker, but only through glass darkly. This was extremely helpful; in addition, it makes sense. Of course there would be things in a culture that are structural foundational and understood or assumed that create not only a means of communication, but something of maintaining order.  If a red-light isn’t understood by all, what chaos would ensue?  I wonder, too, if post-modernity has begun to question, reorder, mix up, and redefine some of the signs in our society.

Great – It’d be interesting to study this out further.
