Week 1 – Bevans, Chapter 1

Theology, then, is informed in not some objective, separate and detached from any influence then. It is informed by our culture, our context. So the objective belief in theological studies that is held today is reflective then of the modern era steeped in science. (:3 & :8) Therefore the study of scripture as theology from the modern ear is reflective of the enlightenment and systemization of a topic or field, hence Systematic theology. So the rub isn’t necessarily that it exists, but that the western/enlightened/classical schools have attempted to trump all other interpretations or contextual reads of Scripture.
