Week 8 – Monday

As Eric and I talked today in our small group at the beginning of class, we both expressed our lament and frustration about the nature of seminary, church, the community of faith and their response to the greater society, etc.  We have these great conversations in class, in this seminary institution that is disconnected from both the community of faith and the greater society.  A great number of us leave our home communities to be here, the very context and support and voice back into with which we should remain.  Our ideas have trouble transferring because the Christendom, institutional church model is also caught up in the modern expression of itself, so we perpetuate this stale, co-opted expression of faith together.  There is no social, political or spiritual radical reshaping of boundaries.  We talk about great things of faithfulness in this and other classes, but where is it’s communal incarnation?  Where is the body of Christ, our faith communities, living this stuff out?
