Week 7 – Response to Barry Teshima

Well said, Barry.  I’d not thought about the “turn the other cheek” component of Daniel and co. in their response.  If one is to be bound by an empire, and subjegated by even the food and drink, life at it’s physical foundation, then to eat of something else that sustains better than the offering is a challenge.  Particularly if it is one’s own diet.  However, a theologian/scholar I once heard was greatly disappointed in the fact that these four Hebrew men did not seem to resist their new names, their homage to God through nomenclature.  The narrator at times does so, but where is the resistance to this identity that has been co-opted by Marduk?  I’d never thought about it…
