Week 6 – Sugirtharajah: The Sign of Orpah; Donaldson

And yet another example of how one would read Scripture through her own eyes. That Orpah would be the hero, or the faithful, in the story of Ruth over her sister-in-law is not something I would have read from my perspective. The church, even post-modernism, has touted the need for different perspectives in reading. But how deep do we extend that invitation? To whom are we inviting? Our homogeneous peers, who may have an insightful nuance to offer in the reading? Or have we opened up leadership and welcomed those who see the faithful in the stories of the Bible as different than we do?
