Week 6 – Response to David Pham, Fuellenbach Reading

David, I’m so sorry to hear that the Catholic church has operated in a manner that is disingenuine both to the Vietnamese and to Jesus!  Other stories I have read seem to indicate that the Catholic church does pretty well with inculturation, but perhaps those locations are limited to England and Australia.  It’s shocking that Mary is preminent above Jesus.  In the past, the churches in the United States also struggled with this.  Protestant Christians and Catholic Christians would argue about this very same issue, but it has lessened in intensity over the last 10-15 years.  Are there other forms of church that are faithful in speaking and living Christ in Vietnam?  What is the dominant Christian expression of church and community there?
