Week 6 – Ashcroft (1st Ed.): Woman Skin Deep…; Suleri

Suleri, a Pakistani woman, critiques the Feminist views and writings of the west, calling to account the struggle to authentically write outside the discourse of colonialism.  Many of offered their views or encouragement, but have postured themselves in a manner that places woman at the margins of the imperical discourse, despite that one’s idenity has roots aside from or prior to or apart from the colonial Other.  A good critique; however I wasn’t sure she offered something substantive towards a legimate alternative towards a non-margnial dialogue.  How does that even look?  The empire can’t afford to allow for that, but how do the citizens therein give voice to the Other in a manner that honors those who have been othered?
