Week 6 – Ashcroft (1st Ed.): Under Western Eyes…; Mohanty

As Mohanty calls into question the analyzation of women in cultures and societies, she proffers that we bring with us the imperial aspect of women as defined by our culture or the empire.  Particularly around Feminist studies, and the West’s projection of “engendered self” on the “Third World” woman.  A woman’s vocation in production or at the home, how women mother, etc., are all defined by the empire.  It is again a reminder that we have so “othered”, in this case as gender, as to render an unwarranted production of an oppressed people.
