Week 3 – Sugirtharajah Reading – Making the connections: . . . Interpretation, Pui-lan

On page 55, at the end of the first paragraph, I find speculation in D’Angelou’s interpretation of Paul’s discourse on women. Her suggestion that Paul was syncretizing his faith with the Roman order of patriarchy and famialism, and that his views of sexuality were compromised. Really? Is this an aspect of his sinfulness? I would think that in following Jesus, a counter-cultural revolutionary, and in the other areas of his life, he would be faithful not to be complacent in this area of life as he avoided in others.
