Week 2 – Fuellenbach Reading

What a significant foundation to community and church so broadly developed by Fuellenbach: That in order to re-structure a society around caring for the poor or marginalized, it must be developed anew. The Israelites were an oppressed people where all shared the same place in Egypt as slaves and outcasts. They were able to leave the land by God’s compassion and right hand, and received much by the Egyptians on the way out of town in goods. By this they were more equal and without a structural caste system on their own accord. Organizing themselves as a self governing and self sufficient society around avoidance of generating a permanent society of poor would be much more conducive with their history and the compassion of YHWH (See Leviticus 25).
