Week 2 – Wednesday; Gandhi

In the final hour and a half today of Gandhi, it was difficult not to get caught up in the character and story of Bapu. I forgot to watch with the post-colonial lens! However, I must say that Gandhi’s breadth of sight from a marginal people did not abate when India became Independent from Britain. Through heightened strife within India after Britain’s departure between the Hindu’ and Muslim’s, he was just as active in maintaining vision for the Muslim minority as he did for the independence of India. He was able to identify with the Muslim’s when others would not, and offer patient compassion and connection to them.
